Hi all,

Sorry if that has been said before, but there is no "subscription scheme" of any sort. You are *offered* 1 year of support & updates & upgrades for free when purchasing.

After that, nothing forces you to renew your support & maintenance. It just covers for support should you need it and all updates and upgrades, but if you're happy with your current version, nothing forces anyone to renew it. software doesn't expire nor is crippled in any way.

I find it rather buggy... cursor seems to jump out of the segments all the time... maybe because I'm going rather fast? :-) It got slow on one or two occasions and I actually had to switch to 2014 to finish the job... next day, slowness was gone...

People in other places say it must be my system, since Kilgray never releases anything "buggy"... maybe, maybe...

I7 processors, 16GB RAM (34 virtual), 120GB SSD, 1T HDD... is this not able to cope with it? :-)

I'm trying to open an SDL package with a TM and a termbase. memoQ (latest version) gives an error. I try again while I instruct memoQ not to import the TM and termbase. The SDLXLIFF is imported.

How can I create a SDL return package?

Hi all,

Just a thought, as it's something I've unfortunately seen often: make sure all your projects and TM/TB/other resources are only on *local* drives. [/quote]

This is unfortunately something that is becoming more and more the norm - Kilgray needs to make their product compatible with resources located in cloud locations such as Dropbox, etc., if they are going to stay up to date.

Unfortunately I have no solution just to offer, other than moral support to let you know that you are not alone!

I had the same problem after completing a server project. As you mentioned, I force quit the program, and it has not happened since.

I came across this forum posting by Googling the following error:
"You are trying to detach a project that is not the currently attached one."

Not sure what that means...

Let's hope the next update will fix this!

Hi all,

Working on a server project, I'm quite new to MemoQ 2014 and actually I'm a bit disappointed as regards the alleged intuitive usage and performance of MemoQ.

Most of all, I simply can't find the button or key combination for deleting all text in a target segment (e. g. when there's a match inserted that I don't want to use).

Also, I'm having trouble confirming segments (both with Ctr+Enter and via the menu button) – whenever I press confirmation, I get this error message:

Allgemeiner Fehler (General mistake)
TYPE:
System.Data.SqlServerCe.SqlCeLockTimeoutException
MESSAGE:
SQL Server Compact timed out waiting for a lock. The default lock time is 2000ms for devices and 5000ms for desktops. The default lock timeout can be increased in the connection string using the ssce: default lock timeout property. [ Session id = 2,Thread id = 6396,Process id = 6732,Table name = DocumentHeader,Conflict type = u lock (x blocks),Resource = RID: 1045:0 ]

Hence I always need to confirm 3-5 times with EVERY single segement, which is quite a nuisance.

I am aware that this might be a server problem particularly related to the client agency server, but it also seems to me that unlike in Trados Studio 2011 there is no menu in MemoQ where I can actually check the server connection and connectivity, or is there?

Thanks in advance for any help from you!

I think the issues you have with the customer's server could be due to A) server connection problems at the customer (ask them whether their server is up and running) or B) some incompatibility between your memoQ and their server (ask them what exact version of memoQ Server they are running and try use the same version on your end). I regularly use customer memoQ Servers and they work quite alright, although slower than my own Server, of course.

As for the segments.... If the file contains segments you do not want to use, wouldn't it make more sense to clear them all in one go and then let memoQ give you the 100% matches for editing? I regularly clear everything when the pretranslated contents is not in good shape and I generally prefer to make use of the contents of the memory.

Post title: Yes,

the particular version of MS Word makes difference. Micro$oft keeps on quietly changing file format specs in order to compromise compatibility (their usual policy). I’ve seen reports about third-party apps unable to properly handle Word 2013 files while Word 2007 was OK. Thus, unless Kilgray has upgraded their file filter, problems are possible (however, everything may be fine, it depends on the particular file).

Post title: Thanks so far - new problem: bilingual export

Given that the server connection still doesn't work, I'm trying to export the file/project now to continue working in Trados Studio.
Unfortunately, the 'export in bilingual file' (in Project home - Translations) doesn't work either ('internal application error'), as it seems to refer to the server file data as well?
It appears that there is no locally saved bilingual file either, at least I can't find any such file in the project folder on my PC.
In Trados Studio, when doing online projects, you still 'own' your local project and bilingual files.
Could it be that MemoQ, in contrast, keeps you totally dependent on server data when doing online projects???

As you can see from the image above. There are two type of online projects:

1. Server documents - all resources (files for translation, memories etc.) will be kept on the server. There must be an connection all the time with the server.

2. Desktop documents - you would have a local copy of the project with local resources and all files can be synchronized with the server when you open or close the project. This means you can complete the project as you would do with a normal local project.

Hope that you know what to do. I would ask your client for a workaround first.

Thanks a lot Dan, this explains a lot to me and I had suspected such a setting – in my case it must be a server document project without local resources, which is quite unfavourable to translators..

Wordcount - New Segments Similar To Each Other

Poster: Schicklgruber

I'm trying to find a way to count new segments in more meaningful way. I'm currently using MemoQ 2014. The problem with the wordcount is that the program counts every new segment (all of them) as new even if these segments are very similar to each other.
As a simplified example, assuming I have a file with two just two segments (not in the TM):
"He is a certified public accountant in the US. She is a certified public accountant in the US, too."
The wordcount would count these as two new segments even if normally the second segment is a 80-90% fuzzy match. Is there a way to get this kind of statistical information, which would be very useful to evaluate time requirements for large projects?

Hallo liebe Kollegen,

Sorry, I should have written this in English...

I am translating 3 files in MemoQ, but even after synchronizing the first file (already translated) and when running a pre-translation of the second file, it doesn't show any matches although the texts are partly similar. I'm not very experienced with MemoQ, so any help is appreciated!

Thanks in advance!
