I just did a quick test (export as .rtf, edit it, changing some tags from red to black, and reimporting the rtf into memoQ), and it seem maybe they need to stay exactly the same colour. I just got the following error message for the edited segment:
"QA warnings (automatically found by memoQ)
• Target text contains tag that is not formatted as mqlnternal."
