If the research and testing had been done for my own benefit, I would share a list of things, conclusions, etc., plus I would publish them. However, the above was done for my former employer. I do have everything in my head, so to speak, and some notes.
The original posting was written in the hopes to start a discussion on this memoQ plugin. By way of context, my team was facing a serious backlog of translating chapters and chapters of technical documentation in Spanish. I was the Spanish translator, but it was just me and I was already busy translating the user interface. The VP in charge of our team decided that the tech writers should run the DeepL API on RoboHelp files (very bad idea, shows that the VP and other executives know next to nothing about translation processes or technologies).
The poor tech writers labored for five weeks dealing with DeepL's very imperfect output last year; let's just say they didn't want to repeat that episode under no circumstances. I offered to research better solutions, was given the green light and I spent a whole month doing that. Some teams might argue that using an advanced subscription to, say, DeepL or Google Translate to batch translate high volumes of files would be the best choice, but I knew better with memoQ AGT because this plugin complements existing resources (translation memories and termbases) and keeps the translator in control of the whole workflow.
