Post title: Until you get a reply from Kilgray support,

you can borrow Hunspell dictionaries from your SDL =)
Browse the SDL folder to find the Hunspell files. The files you need are en.zip, it.zip, bg.zip, etc.
You can add those dictionaries in 'Tools' -> 'Options' -> 'Spell settings' -> select first language -> check the Hunspell radio buttons -> 'Install new dictionary from file' -> browse the zip file that you found in SDL folder -> 'Add' -> check the box -> Ok.
Repeat for all languages you need.

Hello Lucia,

You need to check whether you have the appropriate proofing languages installed inside Microsoft Office. Open Word, go to File - Options - Language and check which languages are installed (see the following screenshot: [url removed] ). If it says Not Enabled for a particular language, then you need to purchase a Microsoft Office language pack for this language and your version of Office.

Another way to verify is to open a document in that language and try to check its spelling with F7 in Word.

After you have installed the language pack, memoQ should be able to use the Office spellchecker if the appropriate setting is enabled in memoQ options.

Best regards,
Stanislav

Thanks for this hint. I'll try this but it is strange that memoQ doesn't allow me to get the Dictionary.

However, I think it is a problem due to Office. In fact, I don't even get the spellchecker with a word doc. I don't know where i can enable the spellchecker in Word/Excel.

I've never managed to connect MS Word spellcheck in memoQ. It allows me to switch it on, provides no error messages, but it just doesn't work.
Hunspell works fine, so I will recommend to use it.

Post title: A bit wrong information

Lucia, I gave you wrong information. You will not find zip files in SDL folder. You need to find Hunspell files, copy them somewhere and then make a zip file by yourself.
This is the route you need:
C:\Program Files\SDL\SDL Trados Studio\Studio4\HunspellDictionaries
For example, there are 6 pairs of English files:
1. en_AU.aff
2. en_AU.dic
3. en_CA.aff
4. en_CA.dic
5. en_GB.aff
6. en_GB.dic
7. en_NZ.aff
8. en_NZ.dic
9. en_US.aff
10. en_US.dic
11. en_ZA.aff
12. en_ZA.dic
You can either choose 1 pair or all 12 files and zip them as en.zip
The same applies to it_IT.aff & it_IT.dic
Then follow the above-mentioned instructions.

Post title: Contact Kilgray Support

Hello everyone,

We have taken a look at the information in the thread with members of the Kilgray support team, and we have concluded it is best that you contact support for this situation.

Just to clarify:

MS spellcheck only works in memoQ if you have it enabled in MS Word itself for that language. In the original post Lucia mentioned that her spellchecker does not work in MS office either so logically it won't work in memoQ as well.

If you are experiencing trouble with this, please contact us at [email removed] - There can be many reasons as to why this is happening, from compatibility issues between memoQ and your MS Office, your own configuration settings in Office or maybe also your own configuration settings in memoQ.

Cheers,

MemoQ 2015 Export bilingual issue

MemoQ 2015 (evaluation copy), Windows 8.1, Word 2007 (oh yes!)

Imported docx Word documents. Export of "clean" translated files works perfectly.

Export of "Trados format bilingual files" does not. The usual window pops up for you to change the name of the bilingual document about to be created - all well and good. Click "Save" to continue the process and then (and it took me a while to find this!) a second "Save As...." window pops up BEHIND memoQ.
Having shifted memoQ to the edge of the screen before starting, I can actually save this file too. (Before I discovered it, I just thought memoQ was hanging indefinitely - I only discovered this second "save as" window because I was trying to restart the computer.)

This second file appears to be an auto-recovery tmp file, in fact, judging from a) the name starting with tmpxxx, b) the default directory and c) when I open the first-requested bilingual file, it suggests this second file as an autorecovery option in the usual narrow panel on the left.
However, Windows will not let me open it in the usual double-click way unless I close memoQ first. If I open Word with blank document, select Open and then select the file, it works.

I've checked my Word options and the "always take a backup on save" option is NOT selected.

Anyway, if it was a general system option fault of that kind, I would expect it to behave the same way when exporting the "clean" files.

Any thoughts? :-)

I can work round it as long as I remember to shift memoQ away from the centre of the screen, but it's a bit annoying.
Thanks!

Post title: Possibly fixed?

I suspected it could be an idiosyncrasy of my installation rather than a general memoQ bug.

Not least because I subsequently noticed spurious "Save As..." popping up in Wordfast Classic as well, along with Word document saves crashing if I saved with Wordfast open (not with it closed).

Anyway, I discovered this:
[url removed]

and as my new machine is an Acer, I though I was onto something. So I deleted a bunch of the bloatware that came with the laptop (abDocs, abFiles, other related stuff with similar names which seems to relate to this synchronisation feature I don't need) and lo, memoQ no longer objects to exporting a bilingual file.

@John - thanks for the tip, I know they Kilgray respond well, and in fact seemed to be monitoring this forum when I had a question last week, so I thought this method might reach a wider audience of people who might have had the same problem, PLUS Kilgray support as an added bonus :-)

I have no idea what I need it for, and the "Learn more" links just lead to videos.

What do people actually use it for?

Why do you ask what translators need in this context when you don't give a damn when translators paying for licences ask you to fix MemoQ's broken html and xml filters that completely mess up the files' layout?

Hi Thomas,

Thanks for your feedback. The videos after the learn more links are short tutorials explaining users how take advantage of different LT features. We have actually prepared a series of 8 short videos that help users to get familiar with new Language Terminal’s layout and functionalities.

You can take a look at them here: [url removed]

Translators use Language Terminal for numerous things: Tracking their projects, accessing reporting stats regarding their jobs, sharing TMs, TBs and other resources and, converting INDD files to XLIFF.

As far as your concern, I have contacted support to make sure they are aware of your request.

Thanks again,

Gonzalo

Hi Gonzalo,

Thanks for your comments.

"Translators use Language Terminal for numerous things: Tracking their projects, accessing reporting stats regarding their jobs, sharing TMs, TBs and other resources and, converting INDD files to XLIFF," you say. It's very general, and too general to make one decide whether it's worth looking into.

"8 short videos that help users to get familiar with new Language Terminal’s layout and functionalities," you continue, but before I have an idea if this might even be useful for me, I don't want to spend time getting familiar with its functions. It's like sending an owner's handbook to a potential car buyer who asks about a car's main features. And I don't like having to spend a lot of time watching videos just to get an idea what I can do with this. Videos can be good showing the ins and outs but not always to give a brief overview.

Oh, support is very well aware of my request. It has been discussed for months, but they outright refuse to fix it and don't even understand why it's a problem that MemoQ messes up the layout of these files. They had promised to escalate it and put me in touch with someone higher up the food chain, but that promise was never kept, and they just kept ignoring my reminders about it. At one point, they told me that several other users too had complained about this, but they still insist only their own view is correct, never mind what the users and file owners think about it, so the customer is always wrong. The whole experience has been a bit like Monty Python's Dead Parrot sketch, so the term "The Dead Parrots" has become a nickname for MemoQ support in some of my informal communications with an important client - who thinks the same about your support.

When it's about more ordinary problems, your support is fine, but a complete rejection of even admitting that such a major problem is a problem is utterly unacceptable. It means I cannot offer translation of html or xml files without warning the client first that their files will be messed up by MemoQ, and then I usually don't hear from them again. Just great, isn't it?

Dear AHK experts,

Can someone can help me write an AHK script that would allow me to delete text after the cursor position until it hits a tag in a target segment? This feature is called Delete to Next Tag (Ctrl+Shift+D) in Studio. I am trying to do the same thing in MemoQ with an ahk script, since MemoQ does not have this feature yet.

Thank you so much for your help!

On reflection, I suspect a larger SSD and no HDD would perhaps have been a better choice, but never mind. What's done is done. At least I feel assured that putting TMs on the SSD is unlikely to cause any harm, which was a concern.

Given that I work by creating a new, project-specific TM for each memoQ project, I could even experiment, and see if there is a noticeable difference in speed between TM on SSD and TM on HDD.

Thanks again to everyone for their contributions.

After you choose MS Word spellchecker radio buttons, you need to close active document and project. Once you re-open it, MS Word spellchecker works fine. It does not work just as soon as you turn it on, that's why you cannot see the expected effect.

By the way, Pavel Tsvetkov's statement in his review ("5. On-the-fly spell checking using Microsoft spell checker (Déjà vu X3 and MemoQ still cannot figure that out)") is wrong. memoQ _can_.
