My trial version of Xbench 3.0 just ended and I'm still not sure about buying it. I wonder if it's possible to run QA of memoQ files .mqmxl in Xbench 2.9?

Post title: My workaround

I haven't used Xbench 3.0, so I'm not familiar with the workflow.
I export my finished file as a "Trados-compatible bilingual DOC" file, then open it in Xbench 2.9 as a Trados Word file. I make my corrections in the source file in MemoQ, export again as a Trados Word file and run the check again if it's a long file or if the client wants a QA report. Then I export the QA results as an Excel file if the customer has requested verification of the QA.

If someone has a better solution, I'd be happy to hear it!

A better solution is to pay for the Xbench license, thus allowing ApSIC, the company that created the program, to continue developing and improving it.

Not sure what type of file mqmxl is, but try exporting bilinguals from MemoQ as (basic) mqxliff and then importing them in Xbench as xliff files.

How to activate special character "ligature" like "oeuf" in French in target text ?

I translate into French.
I need a special character which is not on the keyword: it is call "ligature" and it is a fusion of 2 characters, o + e in some specific words, as in "œuf" or "bœuf" (egg or beef).
When I type in Word (French version), as soon as the word "oeuf" is completed the MS software activates the fusion and replaces the 2 distinct oe by the ligature "œ ".

Is there a way to program a rule somewhere in memoQ with a list of words using this ligature to have an automated conversion/fusion?

On Windows you use Alt codes.

œ = Alt + 0156
Π= Alt + 0140

For words and phrases I find cumbersome to type in my translations into Spanish, I simply add a termbase entry with the target translation, so that the memoQ's predictive typing feature helps you insert the word. You can also use Ctrl and the number of the term in the translation results list to enter the term easily.

I don't know in MemoQ, but it could be interesting to consider the Microsoft Keyboard Layout Creator, with an excellent Tuto, here :

You can apply this demonstration to any other character you need. Useful not only in a CAT tool.

Enjoy!

Doesn't MemoQ spell checker suggest the correction, like Word's own spell checker, at least?

How to use the Microsoft MT plug-in in memoQ now that Microsoft Translator has moved to Azure? | I found a solution on Azure

Post title: I found a solution on Azure

I found your post when googling for an answer to why the Microsoft MT plugin no longer seems to work. Having found out about the move to Azure, I created an account there and somehow found my way to setting up a new subscription to the Translator API. This link should take you directly to the setup page once your Azure account is active: [url removed] #create/Microsoft.CognitiveServices/apitype/TextTranslation

I found that there are two Microsoft MT plugins in memoQ (haven't noticed that before). The one I had active had the additional "(legacy)" in the name. That one uses the Client ID and Client Secret combo. The new (?) plugin only needs a subscription key, so I entered the one I got from Azure, and now everything works again.

Hope that helps!

I appreciate your help. I did manage to set up a subscription to the Azure Translation API (don't ask me how - that was surely one of the most incomprehensible processes I have ever encountered!). I guess we're now waiting on memoQ to update their side of things, although you seem to have found a new plug in that I don't see on my screen. I submitted a support ticket with Kilgray and am now waiting for them to get back to me.

I'm rather surprised that no-one else seems to have an issue with this, as I assume the Microsoft MT plug in would have stopped working for everyone. But maybe not - it's clear that I am definitely not an expert :)

Hi everyone,

I'm running memoQ 2014 on Windows 7. After some automatic system updates on my PC I can't seem to open memoQ without getting an error. It says "memoQ has stopped working" and gives me the following information:

A quick and unfounded guess: is it possible that the updates to Windows altered or disabled Microsoft .NET Framework installed in your machine? You might want to check memoQ's system requirements and check the versions of .NET Framework in Windows' Control Panel. If the right version of .NET Framework is missing or disabled, you might want to look for it online and reinstall it.

It says .NET 4.5 is installed (memoQ 2014 R2 requires 4.0 or higher). I'm going to try and install .NET 4.0 from scratch and see if that resolves the issue.

So you just need to install new version of memoQ, memoQ 8 has been released already. There are two Microsoft MT plugins in this new version.

you should contact MemoQ support team, they are nice guys and willing to help. Other efforts seem to be a wild goose chase if even such serious professional as Tomás Cano Binder does not know a right solution.

I'm using MemoQ 7.8.164. Both the old and new version of the plugin are in the list. The old one did stop working for me at the beginning of May, but I was able, with some contortions, to get a new Azure subscription key and make it work.
