Thanks. I know what and where they are, but I'd never have guessed the acronyms.

It's still odd that my 9.2 Analysis works as MemoQ has always done (i.e. taking the current TM into account) and Mikhail Kropotov's doesn't. It doesn't look like a change of functionality.

I'm using MemoQ 9.2. I got two packages from a client and was asked to import first P1 and then P2 (an update package). I can import P1 OK, but when I double click on P2 (or select "Import package" in MemoQ), instead of opening the Update handoff package dialog, I get a message asking if I want to close the current project. If I choose No, nothing happens. If I choose Yes, I get a message "The package contains an update but MemoQ cannot find a suitable project on your computer. ..."
Any ideas on how to solve this?

Based on Tomás Cano suggestion, I double-clicked on the Dashboard to open the project. Then I right-clicked on the file's name to select Export (Dialog). This way the source file is exported with warnings that several segments remain untranslated. Just click on OK; you'll already have the source file in your computer.

Your comment made me double-check and compare the different projects I have been working with.

As it turns out, the behavior I described in my original post is easier to replicate on a customer's remote server project rather than on my own local ones. It seems that on a remote server project, even when I select the checkbox "Project TMs and corpora" in the Statistics dialog, the analysis is calculated as if the checkbox were deselected. Perhaps the server TM is in a different state from my local one, and the checkbox doesn't work as expected.

Still, I could swear that when I posted originally, it was because the issue was happening on a local project of mine, not on a remote server project. With a local project there's only one TM, the local one, and it should theoretically always be up-to-date.

I haven't gotten to the bottom of this issue yet, but I'll keep a close eye on it. If/when I figure it out, I'll update this topic.

Thank you everyone for your input and feedback!

Post title: Server version

I can't provoke the problem in a server project either.

You are presumably aware of MemoQ's compatibility policy:

Client and server, translation
For the purposes of translation, we guarantee compatibility for one major version “ahead” and “behind”: anyone using memoQ 8.x translator pro must be able to translate projects on memoQ server 7.8 (2015) or memoQ server 9.x.

(Presently at , but their undisciplined webmasters keep moving their articles around without establishing redirects from old URLs, so who knows how many days that link will work?)

Which server version is the project using?
Yes, indeed. It's all very strange. But if it does happen again, the first thing I'd do was to check in the TM if it actually contained the translation. Bugs do happen. And sometimes bugs are only triggered in specific cases (say, if your name begins with 'M', a programming error results in a variable being cleared, or whatever).

Export aligned word docs as return package/Trados compatible bilingual?

Topic: Export aligned word docs as return package/Trados compatible bilingual?
Poster: Rory Andrew Gale

I want to use MemoQ to send return packages but actually just do the translation myself on Word as I find it much faster and easier.

Therefore, what I want to do is to align the original source word document with my target word document and then export it as a return package and/or bilingual xliff file which is compatible with the agency's Trados.

Simple right? Apparently not. I got as far as doing the alignment easily enough by creating a LiveDoc after following this tutorial: but then could only export it as a TM.

When I go to the 'documents' tab at the top and click on either 'Export (Stored Path) / Export (Dialog) or Export Bilingual' nothing happens. Do I need to somehow 'finish' the project off? Is it a bug? I just downloaded the latest update of 9.0. Bear in mind that I have not created a MemoQ 'project' out of it - I simply want to align the files then export them to send back to the agency.

I consulted this page: but the simple fact of the matter is that the Bilingual Export Wizard just doesn't pop up when I click on the Export button.

After HOURS of fiddling around I had to resort to copying each segment one by one into the Trados import file which completely defeats the purpose of what I am trying to do! If I could copy them all across in one fell swoop then it would still save me time but I had to do them all individually - hundreds and hundreds of them!

Please help!!

If you have an empty source file, maybe you can use LiveDoc-made TM to pre-translate it. Then you can export a. xliff file or return package (if you have the project package to import into memoQ).

... for such job:
1. Copy the SOURCE column ONLY. Remember to omit all line/segment numbers, title bars, headers, footers, comments etc.
2. Save that column as a new DOC or RTF file (whatever you prefer).
3. Use that file as the source for your MemoQ job. Translate acc. to your knowledge. Use your TM. Use the client's target segments as far as usable (just copy from Word and paste into MemoQ target column).
4. Once the translation is finished, copy the TARGET column ONLY.
5. In Word, add a new column to client's table and paste your target into it. You will be able to show to your client as well as yourself the extent and volume of your work.
6. Back to MemoQ, you can generate your final output file.

I haven't tried this method but think that, having got rid of all the 'ballast' (see item 1), you won't have to fight the unnecessary format issues. All in all, the work should be quicker and easier.

Awaiting your comment.

Press Ctrl+Shift+G to open the Go to Next Settings window. Enable the Automatically Jump after confirmation checkbox.
Then, go to Status tab and enable the checkboxes according to the type of segment you want to go after confirming with Ctrl+Enter.

For instance, if I am translating a file, I would enable Not started, Edited, Assembled from fragments, all Pre-translated checboxes (if exact or ICE matches have not been confirmed previously).

You will need to create a project in MemoQ and then, after opening it for translation and having your LiveDoc and/or TM open, click on Preparation and then Pretranslate. It should then populate all your segments, and then you can export it as a bilingual file.

This should not take very long, but I do recommend skimming your populated segments to make sure it didn´t put in something else. For example, putting in "Grado:" when you need "Calificación:" for the source "Grade:" on a line.

Thanks for the suggestion, but that's not really what i need.
You see, I'm working with numerous huge segments, I don't need to translate them all cause it's a multilingual document.
what I really need is not to waste time opening new segments, which are not in my target language.

So far I have not found any settings in Go to next segment, which could do what I need - i.e. to simlpy confirm the segment and don't jump anywhere.

Is there any solution/workaround with the tools I have at hand?

Locking segments is not an option.

So I think I may have fixed it. Or at least greatly improved the situation.

Looking around on the Knowbrainer forums (an excellent source for information and advice about using Dragon), I came across a post mentioning possible conflicts between Skype and Dragon. So, I uninstalled Skype, and everything seems good now.

I should mention that I recently upgraded to Windows 10 from Windows 8.1 (fresh installation), but I was still having similar problems until I uninstalled Skype.

I'm not sure if this is a complete and permanent fix, but I haven't noticed any slowdown since. Would like to hear if anyone else gets the same result.

Dear Kristel,

I am not an expert, but I once worked with a client using Deja Vu.

If you can get the file in xlf format from your client, you can open it in MemoQ.
After you complete your translation, you can send the translated file again in xlf format by selecting export (dialog). I hope this would work for you too.

Hello Collegues,

I've upgraded to MemoQ 9.2 and I went to the Locations. When I click on Resources/Temporary files, etc, I get this warning:

"The path you have chosen appears to be on a network drive. memoQ will not work properly if you store resources on a network drive...."

I hadn't chosen any path, it did it itself during installation. Now, the Kilgray Support told storing memoQ files and folders in a shared folder is not supported as it may give issues, such as being corrupted.

How do you manage it?

Thanks

Today I suddenly found that my memoQ runs each action abnormally slow
before the action fails with error "timed out" or just crashed.
I've change more than five credentials from different agents as CAL,
but this keeps happening.
The process of input a credential itself has to "timed out" several times
and the CAL I got soon lost when I tried to open of synchronize a project (I've tried also projects from more than five agents).
This also happened on my notebook.
Does anyone else experience similar problem?

Hi

Anyone know how to markup a standard XML (not multilingual) in MemoQ using XPath expressions. The XML has a set of generic nodes that i can select for translation but some have an attribute (Trans="No") which indicates the node is not to get translated. I was hoping i could lock these out using an Xpath expression (as like TRADOS) but i can not not see an Xpath option for singular XML files

Thanks

Topic: Export (stored path) is greyed out, how to Batch export multiple files to source path folders
Poster: McKee T9N

I'm working in MemoQ Translator Pro 8.3.8 and I cannot figure out how to batch export multiple files to their source folders. For some reason, the option for "Export (stored path)" is greyed out. I can't figure out what to do.

I have a client who gives me multiple files to translate in one project, each inside a named folder, sometimes as many as 10 separate folders each containing a single document like this:

Project ABC
Folder 1 > Document X.mqxliff
Folder 2 > Document Y.mqxliff
Folder 3 > Document Z.mqxliff
etc.

I can batch import the documents using "Documents>Import>Import Folder structure" so that I don't have to import each one individually.

But I want to export the target bilingual files back into their respective folders like this:
Document X.mqxliff > Folder 1
Document Y.mqxliff > Folder 2
Document Z.mqxliff > Folder 3

When I select files from the project, the "Documents>Export>Export (stored path)" option is greyed out, and when I and use the function "Export Bilingual" it exports all the files to the same place, meaning I have to manually move them into their appropriate folders for delivery, which is very slow.

HELP PLEASE!
