Hi Veronika,
Export your file as XLIFF or Table RTF and just send it to your proofreader. Once she is done with her work, ask her to export it as Table RTF, import her rtf file with options and tick the 'Import edits as tracked changes' checkbox in the bottom right corner of the 'Document import options'.
Before relying on this method, try it with one sentence first. Ask her to edit one segment and return the RTF file to you. Then, if you get what you expect, proceed with the entire file.

Segment after TAB tag in bilingual Excel file

Topic: Segment after TAB tag in bilingual Excel file
Poster: Jalapeno

Hi there,

I have a bilingual Excel file that I need to translate in memoQ. Source text in column A, target text with some existing translations in column B, context information in column C. I've managed to import that perfectly with one little exception:

Some of the source strings start with the name of a person followed by a colon followed by a TAB tag followed by what the person says. After import, this shows up in memoQ like this:

Speaker:TABThis is what the speaker says.

I want it to show up like this:

Segment 1 - Speaker:
Segment 2 - This is what the speaker says.

I've tried playing around with segmentation rules and filters, but I can't get it to work.

Any memoQ / RegEx wizards with bright ideas around?

Thanks in advance for any help

To split segments at tabs in a Word file:
Import with options
Change filter and configuration
General tab > Special Characters pane > Tab drop-down list > Start new segment

But it's an Excel file, and there isn't any similar option in my v.2013 R2 version...

Hello - will be grateful for some quick guidance. I'm just new to MemoQ, may anyone please clarify:

1) can the WordFast Anywhere VLTM be accessed through this plugin? My suspicion is that only WF Server credentials are accepted, so it requires a WF paid subscription..
2) TAUS plugin checkup returns the 403 error, meaning that the remote end denied the call. Is free account on TAUS not sufficient to query their TM base?

Thank you in advance for comments.

You probably already know how to go to the Review tab, click Next, and click on the little arrow beside Accept and choose Reject. Unfortunately, I have not found a way to Accept or Reject all changes. Maybe export the file into Word where you can accept or reject all at once. I am not sure if the export keeps the track changes or automatically accepts them. I think there is a setting in MemoQ that allows you to choose which way to export.

Maybe somebody will have a better answer for you.

Hi guys,

I would also like to know how to uncheck the settings of QA error codes 3190-3193 (missing space before/after rpr tag and extra space before/after rpr tag) 'coz they are really annoying. But are they customizable in QA? Haven't found this tickbox while editing the settings.

Post title: Font

Sometimes I have a match for a sentence containing a term in italics. When it populates into the segment, it shows the tags for italics from the TM, but the font shown remains unitalicized. I don't know why it does that, but I fix it by highlighting the term and click on the icon to make it italics.

If you check to make sure all your tags are in the proper places on the target side, the font should show up the same on the right side as on the left. But if not, you can still use the formatting icons to make it look right.

Also, you might have tags on the left side that you don't need in the target, but they have to appear in the target in order to export the file. You can just add those unnecessary tags at the end of the segment, thus fulfilling the rules and not messing up your document.

I do PE with memoq (server based, memq 9.2.7) and I always have the problem that there are too many spaces (space tab space). I need to delete these spaces manually. Is there any way with search and replace to search for this string " tab " and replace it with "tab"?

Hello Collegues,

I'm working at a repetitive text. I've enabled Fragment Assembly. I've a large TM (around 10,000 TUs) and TB. I train Muse quite often.

When I write in the target segment, I can see many terms in the segment which are proposed as Autopick.
However, when I go to the next segment or I carry out Pre-translation I don't get them.

Do you have any idea which are the rules to get out more from Fragment Assembly, which should be an important feature of MemoQ?

Thanks

Hi Christiane,
I don't know how to isolate tab tags among other inline tags, but if you only have tab tags with leading and trailing spaces, you can replace " (\itag) " with "$1" (remove quotation marks when doing so). The regex mode should be turned on and the 'Search within tags as well' checkbox unchecked.
This covers all inline tags (red and grey 'bricks'). So, if you have both tab- and non-tab tags, maybe it is worthy of filtering all segments that contain inline tags (Advanced filters > Tags and QA > Source has inline tags) and lock those with non-tab inline tags. Then replace all the remaining tab tags.

Mark multiple issues as fixed in QA report

Hello everyone

I ran a QA check and opted to fix errors immediately. MemoQ is showing me the list of errors, with source and target text boxes at the top. After I fixed an error, I can move to the next or previous error using Ctrl + up or down. Marking an error as fixed is done using Ctrl + Enter. But: I can only mark one segment at a time. Even if I checked 20 or 30 segments, I can't figure out how to select multiple issues in the list and mark them all as fixed in one go. Is there a keyboard shortcut that I'm missing? Shift + mouse click doesn't work either. So, at this time, I have to rapidly press Ctrl + down and Ctrl + Enter in quick succession hundreds of times over and over, just to mark the issues as fixed.

Thanks
Samuel

Ctrl+Enter confirms a segment, and during the QA phase it also marks the problems as fixed (sometimes even if it hasn't been fixed).

Are you saying there are errors you need to correct in hundreds of segments? Or are you talking about ignoring certain false positives? You can ignore all of a certain type of error in one go using the menu.

If there are many errors to fix, it would seem better to return to the translation grid and fix them there (they have a yellow/orange flash icon), then confirm them in bulk and run a new QA. You can also refresh the QA from the QA screen. It's always a good idea to keep doing this until you have a clean QA screen, as you may create a new error when you fix one, and in case of length errors, the length isn't re-checked when you confirm the segment, even if it is marked as fixed.

I find it easier to fix errors of a certain type all at the same time. And right now, I'm doing consistency errors, and it's a lot easier to fix consistency errors if the two segments are right next to each other. But the same applies to other errors: I prefer to fix a certain category before moving on to the next category.

Alternatively, is there a way to mark something as false positive easily? There is an "Ignore" column but I don't seem to have any ability to change whether there is a mark in that column or not. 99% of the 750 apostrophe mismatch flags are false positives. And why, oh, why can't MemoQ tell that "word {tag} word" doesn't have a double space in it?!

Another question:
The client wants me to fix all inconsistency issues, regardless of context. Is it possible to point to one of a set of inconsistent translations and tell MemoQ "this is the correct one, fix all others to look like this one"? At this time, I'm using an AutoIt script that uses Ctrl+Shift+NumPadAdd for select all and copy, and Ctrl+NumPadAdd for select all and paste, so it's quicker to copy the content of the correct ones and paste them into the incorrect ones, but: surely there must be a quicker, faster way in MemoQ?

Samuel, are you aware of the "mass ignore" function in MemoQ? If you click the little arrow below the "Ignore" button in the menu bar (!), you have several options to ignore several similar errors at a time. Since terminology errors, and some others, are 99.9% false alarms, you need this feature dearly.

I also sort them by category. But if you get so many consistency errors, I wonder if you're using a View and Auto-propagation. This fills in repetitions automatically so you don't end up with a flood of consistency errors.

As Karl-Viktor Stegemann and I said, you can ignore all of a certain type in one go. Use the Ignore function and chose the granularity you want. If an issue has not been solved, you can also tick manually to ignore it one at a time.

Click on Hide ignored items to hide items you have ignored from the view.

It depends on what's in the tag. If it's just a formatting tag, for example, there would indeed be a double space. Have you set the tag display to Long? Then it's easier to get an idea what it is.

Yes. If there's more than one file, be sure to create a view with all files (right-click > Create view) from the file list.

Then go to Translation > Translation settings > Auto-propagation and choose the appropriate behaviour. Beware that this is presently a global MemoQ setting, not a project-specific setting. If you do this from the start, you won't get all the QA trouble.

Hi
as of now, June 24, 2020, is it still not possible to insert a line break in the target segment in MemoQ?
Other CAT tools have this feature.
And I need it badly.
Working on lots of PPTX files.
I did a search on Proz but only found out that the request for such a feature goes back to 2012...
