memoQ freezes while editing SDLPPX using Dragon 15.3

Poster: James McVay

I'm using memoQ 8.3 to edit an SDL package of about 4000 words using Dragon Professional Individual 15.3 on a Windows 10 computer.

memoQ freezes when I try to dictate into it, requiring me to end the memoQ process using the Task Monitor. Dragon works fine in other apps once memoQ is closed.

I've been using Dragon with memoQ for years and never before encountered this problem. However, this is my first time working with an SDL package in memoQ. Dragon and memoQ continue to get along fine when I'm working in other memoQ projects, e.g., on imported DOC and DOCX files.

After restarting memoQ, I can type in it with no problem, but that reduces my productivity. Has anyone else had this problem? Could it be a problem with my older memoQ version? Does anyone know a fix?

Here's the error message I get when memoQ freezes:

The requested task could not be completed or an operation failed. The completed task could not be completed or an operation failed, but you can safely continue your work. [Guess what -- I can't!] For more details, please click on More>>

Internal application error.

Here you can find a macro to find a unique character (e.g. a paragraph flag) and replace it with PP’s representation of a new line (^l ??):

Edit:

You have to enter the new line like this:

Thanks, Hans. In the meantime I switched to Cafetran for this particular project, but will look into this for future use.

No, you don't need 32 GB today. Right now I'm using 22% of it, but systems' and applications' resource requirements keep increasing, so I just wanted a configuration that is likely to last for many years. 8 GB would seem a bit limited today, but with 16 GB, you should be fine for quite a while too.

It's difficult to say what is causing your performance problem. [/quote]

I work on a 4 GB RAM Surface i5 and I can tell you it's all down to software optimization and proper coding rather than RAM consumption. On some occasions everything works flawlessly and on others everything slows down, and it has nothing to do with the number of applications opened. It's just the coding of MemoQ that is messed up. The app scrolls super slow. As a matter of fact, scrolling in Trados 2019 is also more problematic compared to 2011 (a bit slower, tends to lag or show some artifacts + no touch scroll support).

The programming environment of today seems hell for many developers.

Help!

I accidentally struck some keys and now the Translation Results pane is stretched over the top of the Grid. I can't figure out how to get it back to the right side of the Grid where it belongs.

Hi everybody,

Since I upgraded to MemoQ 9.4 I have noticed that DeepL MT Plug-in does not return any longer translation suggestions regardless source text origin (always English and various customers).
I'm just reporting a coincidence as I'm not sure this is due to MemoQ's new version.

Has someone experienced the same issue?

Any clue would be appreciated.

Many thanks in advance.

Hi everybody,

Issue seems to be solved. I had to change language pair settings for my folders in MemoQ so as they match plug-in's language pair settings and I could get translation suggestions from DeepL MT again.

Cheers.

Actually the problem came from MemoQ 9.4.7. With MemoQ 9.4.8 the issue is solved.

Thanks for posting this. I recently got a new copy of DNS after a break and, full of enthusiasm, started using it in conjunction with MemoQ yesterday. A couple of frustrating hours later I had to go back to typing because it was so slow! It makes sense now that the problem started when I also used the keyboard. I am currently downloading MemoQ 9.4 to see if that makes a difference. I thought something must have been up when I realised I could use the dictation box with no issues. Hopefully the issue will have been resolved in the latest version, otherwise I will have to give up as it is just too slow.

Does anyone know if it is possible to keep the dictation box open all the time? Mine closes once I have clicked "transfer".

Many thanks in advance,

Helen

FYI to Helen,

I wrote to MemoQ to ask if later versions worked better with Dragon and they said that Dragon was not supported in later versions so I am interested to see how you get on with 9.4. I am still using an earlier version.

Index was outside the bounds of the array

Hello everyone

I'm a new user of MemoQ, and so far updating from bilingual review has always worked for me, until today. Now MemoQ is giving me the message "Index was outside the bounds of the array" when I try to update from bilingual review. I tried re-exporting the file and updating the new version, and I tried creating a View and exporting/importing from that View, but it doesn't work. What can I do to the bilingual RTF file to make MemoQ accept it? I have used bilingual review on this computer and for this client in the past.

Thanks
Samuel

Yes, I know what you mean. This happens sometimes. Most of cases, it can be linked to alterations in the bilingual file such as unhiding hidden parts or the opposite, accidental alteration of the unique file code at the header of the table, accidental deletion of row numbers or rows, etc.

What works for me is to export a new bilingual file and copy/paste the translated cells from the problem file to the newly exported file. If copy/pasting works nicely, it means that you have not deleted any rows accidentally and the file should import nicely.

Good luck!

I was able to deliver by exporting as Trados DOC/RTF, then retranslating that file against my TM (since I did the actual translation in WFC), and then importing it. It imported about 180 of the 200 segments, so the rest of the segments I had to copy/paste manually (there was an error message about the source text having changed on those missing segments, but that made no sense, because I did not change the source text).

Hi there

have you ever wanted opening a MemoQ mqxlz file without starting MemoQ?

here is the solution!
it's called disfr 0.4.0
according to the developer, Alissa Sabre:
"Aside from XLIFF and XLF files, the program is also capable of handling many other formats based on the same standard, including XLZ, WSXZ, SDLXLIFF, MQXLZ and MQXLIFF. What’s more, several formats that are not based on XLIFF are also supported."

just installed and tested now: it works like a sharm

you can find it here

"It can also write the portions of contents out to the following file formats:

TMX file.
Microsoft Excel (.xlsx) file.
It may be capable of writing the contents out to the following file formats in the future:

so-called CSV.
Office OpenXML WordProcessing document (aka .docx) as a so-called bilingual table.
HTML bilingual table"

... So it looks like a pretty capable converter too! Will definitely be following its development.

Michael
