Just be mindful that using the Google MT plugin is not in breach of your NDA or other privacy agreement with the client. I have a client (agency) that specifically forbids me to use that plugin (as it is webbased and retains your information somewhere online). I also use Microsoft which seems to need more post-editing than Google but can still be useful in standardised texts. It's not free either but I don't think it's super expensive.
that Google retains information but before pretranslation I redact all identifiable names and titles and thereafter re-insert them. Of course, it takes some time but in my book is worth every minute:) Regarding standard texts: in medicine (my main field) all texts are more or less standardized ones because of detailed official termbases, style guides, and glossaries.

well - i've been relying on google MT a lot via MyMemory on studio.

and back in the early days bing was caught using google translate to provide their results. ;-)

nonetheless, i just tried to create an account on microsoft azure for MT, but failed. all the tutorials about it are for an old version that either is or is being deprecated.

yes, i do find MT to be quite helpful in speeding up the work. and won't be doing much memoQ until i've sorted this out. why do they not have similar MyMemory functionality as is in studio with the plugin?

Post title: Where to find the plugin?

I don't like post-editing and never accept PE projects. However, I must admit that having read the thread, I was curious about the MT plugins or however they are called. I use memoQ 2015 and when I checked the Help section, I understand how to activate a plugin. However, I cannot find these plugins :D

I performed several google searches using keywords like "google translate MT plugin memoQ 2015 machine translation". No luck. All I can get are old posts which do not lead me anywhere useful. I also checked the google translate website and the chrome plugin pages.

I cannot find them and, actually, I don't know what do I have to look for exactly. Any help would be appreciated.

Are you looking for the plugin within MemoQ or for a subscription to actually use the plugin?

First case: Options > Machine Translation

Second case, try this:

I hope that you have figured out how to find a plugin. Just in case: Options>Machine translation>options for a particular plugin. My advice: try Google as it has no monthly advance payments and quotas like Microsoft.

Good luck!

I had a lot of trouble setting up this plug-in (see this thread: )

Eventually I did manage to get the new version to work, after downloading the latest version of memoQ (8.31 I believe) and following the instructions in this article: ("How to sign up for Microsoft Translator on Azure")

Hope this helps!

I will check it right after I deliver the project at hand.

Is there a way of displaying all terms in the segment together as a list?

Usually, I have more than one defined term in one segment for a given termbase and project. However, while working, only a single term among many is displayed in the termbase section below the translation results section.

Is there a way of displaying all terms in the segment together as a list? I have read many topics on termbases in the memoQ help files with no luck.

Thank you in advance!

Post title: Click on the Eye button

Hello,

If you want to see all matches, simply click on the Eye button at the top of the translation results section.

By default, memoQ shows only the longest one when there is more than one match (from the same termbase) for the same source word.

For instance, if XXX has two translations in the same termbase, say, "ABC" and "ABCD," only "ABCD" is displayed.

You can disable this feature by double-clicking on the Eye button, and deselect "Longest source term hides shorter matches."

Hope this helps.

Cheers,
Max

I totally forgot that the termbase entries are also displayed in the translation results section.

Problem solved :D

Is there a way to import a two-columns Word doc for translation?

Hello!
I have a docx with two columns. The first one contains the source, the other is blank for translation.
Is there a way to import this in MemoQ, without having to copy&paste to an Excel Spreadsheet to use the multilingual delimited filter?
I thought I could copy the source on target, but I can't have MemoQ ignoring the source column.
Thank you!

There's a simple procedure in MS Word when you copy the source text into the target column so the source column matches the target one precisely. Then, select the entire source column, press Ctrl+D and check the option that says "Hidden". Save and exit the Word file. Now you can import the Word file into memoQ and memoQ will ignore the source column because it ignores any hidden text. You will be working on the target text only and the source one is going to stay intact. After translating the file, open the file, select the source column again, press Ctrl+D and uncheck "Hidden" option.

First of all, thanks for the answer.
If I press CTRL+D, it opens the font screen and I can't find "hidden" there or anywhere else. May this be an option not present in Word 2010?

I believe that pressing Ctrl+D opens Font window where there's an option "Hidden" as shown below:

I'm also afraid I did not fully understand your workflow, maybe the following is helpful:

Back up your document.

Save as another identical document and receive the changes. Import the “new” document to memoQ, translate it, and export a monolingual translation.
(the original source and target docs can be made into a TMX or a two-column rtf file just like what memoQ exports, to use in LiveDocs for reference).

Make comparison between the original translation and your translation with the MS Word self-owned COMPARE function.

Post title: Why keep the Word comments?

I am not sure if a workflow wherein a Word document, Track Changes enabled, comments retained, has to be imported as such, and also to translate the comments and the owners. Pardon my ignorance, but I fail to see the usefulness of keeping track changes and/or comments.

To me, a Word file with enabled track changes, and visible changes and comments, is an unfinished or preliminary document, not a final version.

I had to reinstall MemoQ after the bugs mounted up (ver. 7.8.152). All went well, then I 'checked out' a new project from a client and started work on it, synchronising regularly with his server as usual. When I closed MemoQ for a break it also synchronised automatically, as always.

But after the break when I relaunched MemoQ, I got the message: "Cannot open this project because it is in the Recycle Bin. To open the project please restore it first."

But MemoQ's Recycle Bin is greyed out and empty. This was the first project I had worked on in the reinstalled version. Neither will MemoQ let me reopen the copy on my client's server, because it insists I have a local version which I must open. When I have restored it. Which I can't.

I can see the 'project.mprx' file in my 'My MemoQ Projects' directory in Windows Explorer, but clicking it produces the same result: 'restore the file'.

I am completely blocked and am at my wit's end -- naturally close to deadline, Murphy strikes as usual! Any kind and experienced soul have any ideas? Thanks!!

Previously, when I was translating and a term is highlighted in blue, if I type the first letter of that term, it would appear and I could press enter to enter it in the translation. It does not work anymore. The term is there highlighted in blue, but when I type the first letter, nothing appears. Does anyone know what the setting is to be able to turn it back on? Thank you.
