Hello Julie,
Did you make sure to go to the Alignment tab and "Confirm all AutoLinks"? Before "Export to TM"?
My two cents :)

Yes Christophe, I did it, the alignment looks fine but the export remains impossible. I don't receive any error message from the software so I really don't know where the problem comes from...

Export aligned texts (LiveDocs) to a TM | no need for a TM

the beauty of LiveDocs is that for memoQ they work exactly like a TM but crucially they have context.
Also if the alignment is a bit inaccurate you can correct it in ten seconds, whereas a TM is practically impossible to correct.

I would stop there if I were you, use the alignments in memoQ and see how it goes. As I said before, I've not bothered converting LiveDocs to TMs for years, as there is no advantage from it if you're going to be using memoQ

I'm having problems finding the search and replace options in the "Search and replace" box. I open the extended version but can't find any button that takes me to any further options, like taking upper and lowercase into account. I'm using 8.3 in German, so an indication of where in the box a button can be found would be great.

In both the Quick Search & Replace dialog and Advanced (accessed by pressing the button with the three red horizontal lines, each with a point on them), there is a toggle with an orange lower-case a and red upper-case A, which toggles case-sensitive on and off. In Quick Replace, Find Anything vs. Whole Words Only is accessed by pressing the button with the three horizontal dots. In the Advanced dialog, this selection is accessed with pull-down menus.

How very simple, I was looking for a box with lots of options as shown in various online contributions - that was probably in an earier version.

Thank you very much.

This is a standard situation when you use the free (no-licence) MemoQ version. If you buy a licence, this restriction will disappear and you'll have all functions and options at your disposal.

I meet the technical requirements to use MemoQ Free : one project - one document - one translation memory

Post title: Limitations of the Free version are listed as follows:

- Your projects can have only one document.
- Each time you start working you need to create a new project and a new translation memory for that project.
- It is not possible to use memoQ translator free in memoQ online projects.
- You can't add previously created translation memories or term bases to your project.
- You can't open previous translation jobs with more than one documents.
- It is not possible to align documents and build up translation memories.
- No technical support.

(from the memoQ webpage)

So, maybe one of them applies to your situation.

I had a similar problem a couple of years ago, before buying a full licence and in my case the problem was:

- Each time you start working you need to create a new project and a new translation memory for that project

Hope this helps,
Elif

It seems the problem is that I need to create a new Project each time I start working.
I am waiting for Proz to offer memoQ at reduced price.

Do you know where I can download a User Manual for memoQ ? Not just the elementary Starting Guide available at memoQ web site.

I referred to the various webinars, Kilgray's knowledgebase and smaller guiders like the Getting started series. However, I don't recall having used a comprehensive single-volume guide, if this is what you are looking for.

MemoQ scrambling texts?

Hello all.

Have been doing quite a long translation (over 10 Mb, thus no preview was available), first in word 2007 (I asked the client to try that in the first place). I found that, whenever there was a table with cells, memoQ did not seem to notice the cells, so it translated in line (horizontally) the first line of every cell instead of finishing the cell one line at a time and then going for the next. Also, the layout for the page went at least slightly awry from the beginning (and for 200 pages and being cumulative, you can imagine the aspect of the last 30 translated ones).

There were quite a number of these, therefore the additional work was short of awesome (and, in fact -which was the real problem- meant getting past the agreed delivery time), so I asked for the pdf (a pdf-A, thus editable), and tried to use the TM on it, but, first, segmentation had changed (totally) and, second, the problem with the cells persisted.

Any solutions? at the very least: any mitigations?. Plus, of course, I would love to know the reasons. If this is due to (for instance) the original being a series of cut-and-paste word texts from different authors as is the case for most technical manuals, in possible different versions of the software, or for updates "grafted into" the same way, which are then converted to pdf, I wouls like to know how to spot it.

Thanks in advance.

I had a similar problem a few months ago. I received a pdf of a brochure from which I easily (or so I thought) extracted the text to MS word. There were tables and bullet lists that got all mixed up. Basically I had to cut and paste to reassemble the text. I've encountered this before on a much smaller scale (2 pages). A colleague suggested that the pdf was created from a document that had been assembled using a desktop publishing program rather than from an MS Word document.

One single line in a document crashes memoQ - why?

I’m having a strange experience with a memoQ translation: On line 650 in a document of 734 lines, memoQ (v 8.3) crashes over and over again. If I skip this line, the rest of the document works fine. Why is this?

I am getting the following error messages:

memoQ has stopped working
A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available.

memoQ warning: MemoQ.exe - Application Error
The exception (0xe0434352) occurred in the application at location 0X777892FC.

When I click OK, memoQ crashes. In several cases, memoQ also just disappears without any error messages.

What can I do?
